Copy-editor for exposing the invisible project

Tactical Tech is an international NGO, with an office in Berlin, which works with an international network of partners to assist rights, accountability and transparency advocates and activists to use information and digital technologies effectively in their work. Exposing the Invisible (ETI) is a Tactical Tech project that explores how activists, journalists, technologists, artists and citizen journalists can work together using innovative tools and techniques to investigate and uncover new strands of evidence and expose wrongdoing.

Exposing the Invisible is inviting experienced Copy-Editors who have a good understanding of investigation tools and techniques particularly focused on evidence gathering, human rights, freedom of expression, access to information and safety challenges related to these areas to work with us on ongoing projects.

Interested Candidates should have:

  • at least 4 years practical experience as a copy-editor, especially within an international NGO or non-profit context;
  • native English;
  • excellent writing and copy-editing skills and a proven ability to write in a non-academic, engaging manner and to translate technical concepts into accessible language;
  • intermediate to advanced understanding of techniques of investigative journalism;
  • good knowledge of the topics and issues around investigative reporting methods, digital investigation tools and techniques, digital security, access to information, freedom of expression, how activists, movements and citizens can use information to expose wrongdoing;
  • attention to detail and ability to fact-check highly technical concepts;
  • published work samples;
  • ability to deliver on-time under tight deadlines and to respond to feedback in timely manner;
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • experience working internationally and a sensitivity to political situations, culture and different views of the world;
  • demonstrable commitment to Tactical Tech's mission and values, including an understanding of geopolitical contexts in which Tactical Tech's work is carried out.
