DOX Centre for Contemporary Art is the largest independent institution focusing on contemporary art in the Czech Republic, which opened to the public in 2008. It is located in a former factory in Prague's Holešovice district and has become an example of cutting-edge contemporary architecture. The name DOX derives from the Greek word “doxa” (opinion, glory, belief, way of seeing, reputation) and paradoxon. It alludes to the ambitions of contemporary art to question any formal or contextual barriers while also referring to the nearby docks and the industrial heritage connected to the center’s architecture. As a modern multifunctional centre, DOX is a space for critical public discussion on important topics that shape our world.
