NEW Members of the Board

Tactical Tech is seeking new Board Members at a pivotal moment for technology and society. This is an opportunity to contribute to the governance and strategic direction of an established international NGO that has spent more than two decades helping people understand and navigate the social, political, and environmental impacts of technology.
Founded in 2003, Tactical Tech is an international non-profit (Dutch Stichting and German GgmbH) that builds the critical literacy of civil society and decision-makers worldwide. We provide people with the knowledge and tools to understand, question, and respond to the impacts of technology.
Today, our work focuses on the challenges of AI and digital acceleration. We support NGOs, journalists, and media professionals in navigating a rapidly changing information landscape, combating misinformation, and building critical AI literacy, while also developing public education working with wider audiences, including young people.
Our work builds on a long track record in digital security and privacy, digital investigation and advocacy, and public engagement. Our award-winning projects have been replicated in more than 90 countries. We are known for combining foresight with practical, evidence-based resources that translate complex debates about technology into tools for action.
We are now seeking three new Board Members who share our commitment to technology in the public interest and who can help guide Tactical Tech's next phase of development, sustainability, and impact.

About the organisation and board

Tactical Tech is entering a new strategic period in 2026. We have an annual turnover of €1.5–2 million and a team of around 15 people. Our work reaches over two million people annually through projects that support civil society, strengthen public understanding of technology, and help decision-makers make informed choices about its use and impact.
The Board consists of five experienced members with backgrounds in non-profits, governance, and social enterprise. It is responsible for:
  • Ensuring compliance with mission, values, and applicable Dutch and German legal frameworks
  • Overseeing organisational strategy, risk, and financial sustainability
  • Providing governance, legal, and financial oversight
  • Supporting the Executive team, to which operational responsibility is delegated
We are seeking senior leaders with extensive governance and organisational experience who can contribute strategic judgement at Board level in an organisation with more than 20 years of history in the field.

The roles

Experience at a senior level overseeing the finances of complex non-profit organisations is essential. Familiarity with the German and/or Dutch legal and regulatory context is an advantage.

Board Member: Partnerships & Organisational Sustainability

We are looking for a senior leader with extensive experience building and sustaining organisations, networks, and funding models. The role requires established relationships across relevant sectors and a strong track record in philanthropy, social enterprise, earned-income models, fundraising, or other approaches to diversified resourcing.
This role requires the judgement and perspective that comes from senior leadership and governance experience, alongside the ability to open doors, strengthen strategic relationships, and contribute hard-won insight on organisational sustainability.

Board Member: Technology, Politics & Society

We are looking for a recognised leader working at the intersection of digital technology and society, with a deep understanding of its political, social, and economic implications and a track record of strategic foresight in a relevant field.
The role requires the ability to connect technological change to broader questions of power, democracy, and the public interest. The ideal candidate will bring strong international networks and experience in public-interest work, and will provide independent judgement and constructive challenge. Candidates must have no significant conflicts of interest with Tactical Tech's mission or activities.

  • Strong understanding of governance, legal, HR, and compliance frameworks for international organisations (Germany and/or the Netherlands preferred)
  • Active engagement with, and commitment to, Tactical Tech's mission and areas of work
  • International outlook and experience working across different contexts
  • Experience engaging with public audiences, alongside civil society and institutional stakeholders
  • Strong personal integrity, sound judgement, and collaborative approach
